Making a difference...

On Saturday program on Reduce, Reuse and Recycle was conducted by Saahas, an NGO working on the solid waste management and a leading IT company. Here is adisplay of e-waste bin put up by the organization across few strategic locations in the city!!

I was privileged to join the cause and help create awareness about the three R’s ( Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) via exhibition and event at Forum on Saturday… Sahaas took this opportunity to deliver strong signals/messages to general public making them aware of the principles and practices of solid waste management with some great examples sucessfully working in Bangalore.

Finely painted temple top in Sheshadripuram area displays an idol representing both Ganesha & Hanuman. The synergies captured in this representation must have some interesting story, the pull created by this scenario surely must be making devotees to enquire the philosophy from the temple...

Shuttling via BMTC ...

Shot from BMTC bus late afternoon travel, the travel is comfortable if you can avoid the peak hours, these buses are the lifelines of the city and connect almost each part of the city to city center. Amazing to know that they operate almost 4655 schedules, Deploying a fleet of 4812 buses & making 65121 trips which carry 37.00 Lakhs Passengers....

Organic Peppers...

Fresh & colorful peppers kept for sale in lalbagh nursery's Organic Food section, it is, in general produced without the use of artificial pesticides, synthetic fertilizers and in many definitions genetically modified organisms (GMOs). The trend seem to catch up fast as people getting cautious of the fact that use of pesticides and synthetic fertilizers is harmful in the long term...

Ramzan & Samosas…

It is said that ‘If it is Ramzan, it's got to be Samosa. The popular snack will be the first on the list of most Muslims breaking their day long fast running dawn-to-dusk, with these delicious crowd pullers (ranging from Rs. 3-5 per piece). Apart from many other fruits and dry fruits (like Dates), the busy commercial street area lines up food carts late afternoon offering these varieties which will finish off in next couple of hours after the dusk!!

Ganapati Bappa....

I was invited to a friends family for the 'ganapati' pooja, on occasion of 'Ganesh Chaturthi', the festival starting from today... there is a custom to 'install' small ganesha idols in many homes and worship Shri Ganesha. The worship lasts an odd number of days (from 1 to 11 days, sometimes 13)....
The festival is largely celebrated all over India, many residential area's come together and do the rituals on large scale with many cultural programs and social gathering's....

Frangipani..the blooming champa!!

Also called Plumeria (Michelia Champaca) comes with different colors and names depending on location, many other common names exist: "Kembang Kamboja" in Indonesia, "Temple Tree" or "Champa" in India, "Kalachuchi" in the Philippines, "Araliya" or "Pansal Mal" in Sri Lanka, "Champa" in Laos, "Lantom" or "Lilarwadee" in Thai and "Dead man's fingers" in Australia, for example. The Australian name is perhaps taken from its thin, leafless, finger-like branches. Many English speakers also simply use the generic name "Plumeria".

Wide Angle 2007, the Exhibition!!


Being a photographer I crave to see some great photo's and with Anita's invite for Wide Angle 2007, I was glad to be there on Saturday morning...
The exhibits were stunning, few made me stop by and revisit again and again. Varieties include but not limited to landscapes, portraits, abstracts, wide shots, micro's ...
The diversified collection was a sure crowd puller, till late morning I could see many visitors and interesting discussions around every frame. While talking to
Anita it became more interesting to find out the thought process, idea and effort...

300+ yrs and going on…

This Silk Cotton Ceiba Tree [Ceiba pentandra (L.) Gaertn.] tree in lalbagh is said to be more than 300yrs old…. Oh! What a marvelous tree, large branches, huge base. The tree must have seen three generations of mankind and a sure witness to the city’s growth from many kings, empires and rulers to the present day.I wish, If only this tree could speak!!

Bored with the large crowd in Kanteerava on this week end driving ladies of the family to Women's expo, both me and my son freaked out on this delicacy ... the Candy floss!!
I recollected my childhood days to run after the candy floss man who used to carry small balls in a glass container and all kids just used to flock around him Laughing,having fun, eating some...Buying the candy floss again took me back in time to bring back that Smile!! When have you had one recently??

Statue of Sri Chamaraja Wodeyar...

Entrance to Lalbagh is marked by an equestrian statue of Sri Chamaraja Wodeyar, the 23rd Maharaja of Mysore. Although his reign proved to be a brief one, he left an indelible mark on the Kingdom of Mysore and thereby on the present day city of Bangalore (Bengaluru), the part thereof then.
He instituted the Representative Assembly of Mysore state in 1881. This was the first modern, democratic legislative institution of its kind in princely India. He sponsored the famous journey of Swami Vivekananda to Chicago in 1894.

A Women’s Expo@Kanteerava

A women’s expo was held At the Kanteerava Indoor Stadium with a tag line for the three-day expo saying it’s an exhibition on what women really want’! This stall perhaps describes one of many ‘wants’..

The expo had several shoppers who went around the stalls showcasing silk sarees, jewellery, apparel, food products, home decor, furnishing, lifestyle products, health and fitness products and beauty solutions.
