Suvarna Karnataka >> Bangalore turns Bengalooru..


Suvarna Karnataka — the state's Golden Jubilee year — is bringing promises with it for the people of the state. Being a State holiday, people seen celebrating the day with pooja's, processions and gathering's. From November 1, 1956 to this day, Karnataka has taken a giant leap forward. The country's IT hub would shed its anglicised name, Bangalore, and be rechristened as Bengalooru in pristine Kannada.

Likewise, 10 other cities with anglicised names across the state would also undergo a name change. Mysore would become Mysooru, Hospet Hosapete, Tumkur Tumakuru, Bellary Ballary, Shimoga Shivamogga, Chikamagalur Chikamagalooru, Mangalore Mangalooru, Belgaum Belagavi, Gulbarga Kalburgi and Hubli Hubballi.The decision on renaming was announced by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy to synchronise with the golden jubilee of founding of Karnataka at a function here yesterday. So are you going to change your blog name to Bengalooru?
What is in the name after all. I like the word Bangalore than Bengalooru.

I read about the name change in the newspapers.

Very interesting. India is different than the U.S. that way. Mumbai was once Bombay and so forth. I continue to visit your blog. Incredible pics and info. Thank you.
