Sunday, the market day!!

Sunday, a typical day for unwinding for singles, yet a ‘market’ day for families…
Fresh veggies are stacked at the markets looking at the buying pattern or the demand on weekends. Here is the snap taken today in the HAL market, fresh cabbage, pumpkins, few Arbi (also known by various aliases as arvi and taro and colacassia, is a root vegetable.) kept in the gunny bag and lot of curry leaves….

Saturday Morning…

“Sun is to morning, Rain is to evening” seems to be the mantra for the city from last few days when it rains almost every evening…
Early morning today on my walk, I see nicely washed and clean roads, good sunshine and sunrays dancing down from trees, nice weather with cool breeze and a school boy heading to his school whistling ….

Mallige,Home Delivery…

Many households prefer fresh flowers mallige (garlands) be delivered at their doorstep everyday. These flowers are used for pooja (a form of worship) or for ladies of the house wearing it..
A great business model that supports an individual entrepreneur who would daily buy fresh flowers from the wholesale market, weave garlands/mallige and deliver them to his customers and gets paid daily or monthly basis as per the arrangement…

It rained ‘cats n dogs’ y’day evening, the downpour cleansed roads from dust and traffic!! yes, many vehicles were off roads, specially the bikers as the visibility dropped considerably in some area's. The cloudy sky did give adequate warning to office goers to carry umbrellas and jackets but many were caught by then!!

Surprisingly enough got few friends and colleagues calling on us unexpectedly late morning, and made our day with joyful colors of holi we though would miss this season… it took quite an effort to wash off the stains but was a great feeling to wear them from friends with great fervor and shouting “Bura Na Mano Holi Hai…!!” (Pardon Please, This is Holi!)

The Sacrifice...

New Metro for the city is taking a big toll on the environment, Inevitable yet sensitive fact that in the name of development many old trees are getting sacrificed.
This is a picture from the CMH Road where metro would pass taking a detour. The garden city is witnessing this challenging situation to try and achieve rare balance of modernization & nature….

What’s in the name?

Perhaps he knows it better, while he carves out names for living. A roadside nameplate maker in Gandhi nagar busy taking fresh order from a customer while on job, the varieties used from metal, wood to plastic with carious colors and fonts make his shop attractive enough.
Taking advantage of business area around he know he can take orders in the morning and try deliver it by end of the day when the customer heads back to home…

Vigilance..

Early morning in the neighborhood, she perhaps likes to keep her vigil atop a road sign. There are many such neighborhood pets ‘owned’ by the neighborhood than a single family and are not strays…

Amla, the Indian Gooseberry

Reminds me of my days in school, the sour and bitter memories linger around with this photo. A school kid buying 'amla' outside her school in the city. The fruits ripen in the summer, taste is sour, bitter and astringent, and is quite fibrous.

In here, the common practice is to eat it with a little salt and chilli powder A glass of water taken immediately after eating the makes the water seem sweeter....

Mirchi Bajji...

While strolling through the Silk Mark Expo 08 for few hours, this bajji stall lured me for a quick byte... The hot varieties it offered with both the chillies were great, just that it was too oily and had to use some tissue to sqeeze out some!!

Silky Routes…

Karnataka being the largest producer of silk in India continues to strive towards Silk production and marketing. The Silk Mark Expo 2008 an exhibition was held (by silkboard.org) in Kanteerava stadium showcases varieties of silk-ware and even the useful information about silk production & varieties...
There are four major types of silk of commercial importance, obtained from different species of silkworms which in turn feed on a number of food plants. These are Mulbery, Tasar, Muga and Eri. Except mulberry, other varieties of silks are generally termed as non-mulberry silks. India has the unique distinction of producing all these commercial varieties of silk. Here are few more snaps of the event…

The banana flower ...

The banana flower (Scientific Name: Musa) kept for sale in the local vegetable market, it is the flower of the banana tree. Once open, inside you can see small flowers that would eventually turn into bananas.
These are actually used to cook some delicious Indian dishes both veg and non veg. The flavor is a little starchy and bitter, and is good to be eaten as a complement to a meal as a common side vegetable…. A good source of vitamin C and vitamin A, a fair source of calcium and iron, which help make strong bones and teeth (calcium) and help keep the blood healthy (iron)….

This synergy of political alliances seen in this shop where all political symbols / flags are seen standing together. This shop in a market area must be running a successful business of democracy….

Jalebi Management...

Incidently there is an addition to the literature of management as a discipline, this pioneering book called "Jalebi Management" gives importance to the social dynamics of business organizations written by SHOMBIT SENGUPTA from Bangalore. Perhaps many prefer them as a sweet after or while a quick snack, many carts or small shops are seen busy preparing them round the clock, that talks about the demand....
