4, July was America's, but India is still a democracy. The U.S. is rapidly becoming a "banana republic".

Happy Independence Day to you! I suspect the motto of my country could work very well in India : "Out of Many, One People" :-D
I think there are 28 states and 7 UTs ... while other data can be a ballpark figure.
