Daily wage...

Contract workers are seen waiting outside a manufacturing unit, they come early morning and wait outside the main gate of such units and try get onto the daily wage roll, there are several temporary manpower needs that are fulfilled by such contractual arrangements, some work for a single day other last few weeks, even months…

And what happens to those who don't get work? How do they have lunch?

oh, there is a possibility that one may not get to work that day in same unit but their network provides opportunities in other units nearby. There are times when they do not get engaged anywhere...there are many who carry lunch from their homes or eat on roadside eateries which can provide food for as low as Rs.10/- i.e. 25 cents.
