Amla, the Indian Gooseberry
Reminds me of my days in school, the sour and bitter memories linger around with this photo. A school kid buying 'amla' outside her school in the city. The fruits ripen in the summer, taste is sour, bitter and astringent, and is quite fibrous.
In here, the common practice is to eat it with a little salt and chilli powder A glass of water taken immediately after eating the makes the water seem sweeter....

Amazing we have the same food here and the name we use is rather similar, Ambala.
