The Sadhu...
Sadhus are often sanyasi, or renunciates, who have left behind all material and sexual attachments and live in caves, forests and temples all over India. The word comes from the Sanskrit "to practice", referring to the practice of meditation. See sadhana.
A sadhu is usually referred to as baba by common people. The word 'baba' means father, or uncle, in most Indian languages. Sometimes the respectful suffix 'ji' may also be added after baba, to give greater respect to the renunciant. There are 4 or 5 million sadhus in India today and they are still widely respected, revered and even feared, especially for their curses. It is also thought that the austere practices of the sadhus help to burn off their karma and that of the community at large. Refer...

Flowers for Makar Sankranti...
The local Halasuru market was full of varieties of fresh flowers required for the celebration of Makar Sankranti festival celebrated y'day in the city...
One of the interesting facts associated with this Festive day is the famous Sankranti ‘sunbeam’ occurrence at the ancient Gavi Gangadeshwara Cave Temple in Gavipuram (in south Bangalore) dedicated to lord Shiva and is a protected monument.
In another confluence of faith and science, a unique phenomenon occurs here, every year, on this day. A beam of sun rays passes through the two windows to the south of the cave, facing the temple, and slides down through the horns of the monolithic statue of Shiva’s Nandi bull. Then, the sunbeams fade away, after touching the lingam. The sun rays do not enter the temple on any other day in this pattern. The time varies somewhat, but it always occurs around winter solstice. Technology everywhere...
While on a busy road this rider carries a specialized network gear ( LAN/WAN) in his carrybox on the bike, perhaps he is part of one of the many service/support organizations managing many BPO's or IT companies here.
I was amazed to see the footprints of technology almost anywhere is the city even while you are on the move... perhaps that's why a new phrase/expression, BangaloreEnvy has been incorporated in is one of the 10 new phrases that find place in Next Now...

Reva..India's first electric car...
Reva, the two door hatchback; 2 adults, 2 children; top speed: 65 kmph, range: 80 km. Let's get going!!
The REVA Electric Car Company was incorporated in 1995 to manufacture environment friendly, cost effective electric vehicles for city mobility. REVA was designed after considerable market research across nine cities. Considerations such as low operational costs, low purchase prices, driving comfort and effortless parking in congested city traffic conditions were kept in mind while developing India’s first electric vehicle (EV) by the Maini Group.
It is a fully automatic (no clutch - no gears), two-door hatchback, easily seating two adults and two children. A small turning radius of just 3.5 metres makes it easy to park and manoeuver in difficult city traffic conditions. A full battery charge takes less than seven hours and gives a range of 80km. In quick-charge mode (two-and-a-half hours) 80% charge is attained, good enough for 65km. A full charge consumes just about 9 units of electricity. More...

Official Transport....
Reaching the place of work seems challenging to these group of ladies perhaps working in the local garment industry, the employer must be generous to offer them a ride from city to the place of work few kilometers away in his supply vehicle. The option seems to be accepted by these women galdly compared to the loaded buses of BMTC or private operators and enjoy the ride with few breakfast items to share along...

Sheep Grazing....
While on a weekend drive to near by Hesarghatta lake some 40 kms away from the city, clicked this snap of 'sheep grazing' by a localite...
The Sheep and goat breeding is a big rural activity for living.. Sheep and goats are important species of livestock for India. They contribute greatly to the agrarian economy, especially in areas where crop and dairy farming are not economical, and play an important role in the livelihood of a large proportion of small and marginal farmers and landless labourers.
The livestock is maintained primarily on grazing and some supplementary feed like occasional groundnut or horse gram hulls feeds. Most grazing takes place in harvested fields or in forest areas, along roadsides, and on hill slopes. They are grazed eight hours a day; except in summer, grazing is avoided in very early hours.
