I spotted this bicycle waiting for it’s owner in the vegetable market and was quite nostalgic (The temptation of sneak peak into the shopping bag continued!) and took me back the memory lane!!

A paraffin pressure lamp remains all time favorite of the street vendors in the city. This popular lamp has helped many rural areas get illuminated in absence of electricity.. Petromax is actually the pioneering brand name of this type of paraffin lamps but wide a widely used acronym ( on the likes of Xerox being used for photocopies ) …

While it does rain in the evenings, afternoons continue to race with mercury for now. I picked up this from a flicker friend to keep few pots filled with water for birds in my terrace. This pot now has few flying friends and a regular bathing visitor, a squirrel from the neighborhood…

First thing first!!

On my return from a long vacation, the first of the few things that came to my mind was ‘coffee’! I was pulled to the nearest darshinis on double road near ESI hospital to enjoy few hot sips of the lovely filter coffee served in a small glass. Few sips down the throat, only then felt like I am back!!

Nearby corner of the neighborhood on a typical hot day, a seller parks his bicycle loaded with coconuts and within few minutes there are thirsty customers who enjoy them drinking cold coconut water and eating tender creamy kopra…

Obbattu again….

One recommendation from my visiting guests was to taste the holige / Obbattu. This sweet is prepared with wheat flour ( Maida), grind jaggery,coconut and dal make a fine thick paste which is stuffed insiude the maida roti and served with lots of ghee. The food street came to my recue with hot Obbattu served…

Celebrations of Summer – Mangos

Perhaps this arrangement is to balance out the outcry due to summer heat, the gulmohors bloom and so are the mangos putting some indulgence to the taste buds, all because of the summer. The month long mango festival in Lalbagh says it all, the love and affection for this king of fruit is widely celebrated as affordable, farm fresh and tasty mangos are sold throughout this month ….
